American Possibilities: Establish Justice

Moderator: Carlos Mariscal, Associate Professor of Philosophy; Faculty in Integrative Neuroscience; Faculty in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology; Contributing Faculty in Core Humanities

Summary: The framers of the Constitution tasked our government with the goal of establishing justice. Two and a half centuries later, we are still trying to further this goal. But people disagree as to what justice requires. Whose justice? What issues matter most? Who must provide and suffer so that others may benefit from common goods? How do we establish a justice that will remain relevant two and half centuries from now?

Join us this Thursday, November 10, at 5:30 p.m. in the Virginia Laughing Planet as we discuss justice across generational time, people, and even our environment.

Philosopher Carlos Mariscal will lead a panel discussion consisting of Callum Ingram, an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science; Debra Harry, an associate professor in the Department of Gender, Race, and Identity; and Jason Ludden, a teaching assistant professor in the English Department.

Thought on Tap is brought to you by Core Humanities, the College of Liberal Arts, and Laughing Planet. Podcasts and transcripts of past Thought on Tap episodes are available on the Core Humanities website.
